Salmon and Dams

History The dams are probably in prehistoric times The oldest known dam is a dam near Jawa, Jordan, built in the late 4th millennium BC The Egyptians also built dams to hold water The Romans built dams to store water in the mountains. Middle Ages, people improve dams for water mills.

Operation of a Dam 1°)A dam is using the power of water to make electricity. 5°)Then it is distributed to cities 2°)The water accumulated at the top is dropped. 3°)She then turns a turbine at very high speed. 4°)Turbins creates the current that is sent to the central.

Information The dams were built to make electricity through water. Dam is also controlling water from a river. They are often made of reinforced concrete.

Impacts 1°) Human Impact 2°) Ecologic Impact To build a dam, must drown valleys. People who lived in the valleys are sent elsewhere. 2°) Ecologic Impact Dams destroy the lives of animals and plants. The fish can’t migrate into rivers and some species die.

Some dams in France Dam of Naussac, Lozère. Dam of Villefort, Lozère. Dam of Aigle, Cantal. Dam of Bort-les-Orgues, Cantal. Dam of Castillon, Alpes de Hautes Provence. Dam of Éguzon, Indre. Dam of Grand'Maison, Isère. Dam of Monteynard, Isère. Dam of Naussac, Lozère. Dam of Villefort, Lozère. Dam of Tignes, Savoie. It’s the higher dam of France with 160m of high.
