American Competitiveness in the Global Economy Flattening of Global Playing Field Desire of India and China for Economic Leadership American Education not meeting the needs of Employers Shift in Educational Practice

Kenichi Ohmae 3 C Framework for Strategic Thinking Corporation –School, College, University Customer –Student Competitors –Educational Systems in other Countries Blend New Technologies with New Ways of Doing Business –Pedagogies

Tough Choices or Tough Times The Report of the New Commission on the Skills of the American Workforce US has only 14% of the worlds population of college students among industrial nations American students place in bottom half of achievement in math, science, and literacy December 14, 2006

Those countries that produce the most important new products and services can capture a premium in world markets that will enable them to pay high wages to their citizens. In many industries, producing the most important new products and services depends on maintaining the worldwide technological lead, year in and year out, in that industry and in the new industries that new technologies generate. But that kind of leadership does not depend on technology alone. It depends on a deep vein of creativity that is constantly renewing itself, and on a myriad of people who can imagine how people can use things that have never been available before, create ingenious marketing and sales campaigns, write books, build furniture, make movies, and imagine new kinds of software that will capture peoples imagination and become indispensable to millions (NCSAW, 2006).
