Background information  At some time in the future, there will be cities in space due to problems humanity faces.  The first of these cities will probably be lunar based or Mars based.  There has been an attempt to create such an environment with BIOSPHERE2.

 Students start thinking of the potential creation of a city in space.  Designers of such a city will have to work within the parameters of the unique conditions of the base environment.  Designers will have to consider the conditions and services that will be necessary for people living in the city.

Divide the class in the following teams 1. The researchers 2. The inhabitants 3. The designers Teams should cooperate in order to create the best possible space city. Questions should be asked and answered(in written form)+ drawings or computer-aid designs presented in class Use of the internet +Wikipedia sources base.html

 What building materials will be available?  Which jobs will be required;  what skills will people need?  What kind of recreational facilities should be available for the inhabitants?  How will power, food, water, oxygen—the necessities—be provided?  What conditions and services will people need?

Once the base is “created” students can also prepare written reports on the following: Life at the Base ("A Day in the Life of a... Student, Scientist, Teacher, Doctor…) Tourist Brochure (best restaurants; sports activities; museums; historic sites, such as Apollo and other landing sites on the moon, Viking and Pathfinder on Mars) The …….News (newspaper that communicates the current events on the base)

Skype connection with space expert Dr Alexander Martynov Professor Alexander Martynov, worked at the Russian Space Control Center from, , as head of the Ballistic Department! Dr. Martynov has authored 120 scientific articles and 6books dedicated to the motion of spacecraft in planetary atmospheres. He was also involved in the part of the space program that tries to effectively predict dangerous phenomena such as hurricanes, dust storms and industrial pollution.
