Let’s take a look at all the special events this month!

A field trip to Shi Pai Fire Station

We all had a turn operating the water hose which can reach fires as high as the 6 th floor!

To turn on the hose you pull on the lever and to turn off you have to push the lever forward

To put out a fire you need to aim the hose directly at it but when there is heavy smoke a fire fighter can create a sprinkle shower to block out the smoke. More people die from smoke inhalation than burns.

This is called a snorkel fire crane!

Fire fighters can rescue victims trapped high up in buildings and to put out fires that are unreachable from the ground.

This snorkel fire crane can take you up as high as the 16 th floor! We were happy enough with just the 6 th floor

It was quite an experience trying on a fire fighter’s uniform. The coats are heavy to wear but fire fighters also need to carry oxygen tanks on their backs!

The helmet protects fire fighters from falling objects

Look at us!

It was a fantastic field trip and we learned a lot about fire fighters. They are a most important part of our community.

CNY Dumpling Party!

With our parents’ help, all first grade students got to make their own dumplings…and then ate them! Yum!

We were having so much fun!

The dumplings were absolutely delicious

This amazing fruit platter and these three beautiful girls helped to brighten up Ms. Shih’s room!

We enjoy working in partners and in small groups

We need to learn to respect and cooperate with one another

We all had such good ideas to contribute that our neighborhood posters turned out great!
