Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics: Role and Function Partners with federal agencies, manufacturers, retailers and others to promote minimum impact messages. LNT staff develop and distribute educational materials, promote LNT initiatives with federal agencies and cooperating organizations, and conduct fundraising.

Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics: Role and Function A Board of Directors made up of leaders from the outdoor industry, national youth-serving organizations, nonprofit organizations and the scientific community provide strategic leadership and set policy.

Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics: Role and Function Traveling Trainer program - Three mobile teams that teach Leave No Trace and provide grassroots support to build LNT education and outreach programs at the local level. PEAK program - Promoting Environmental Awareness in Kids – REI partnership that developed the PEAK pack of educational modules for ages 6-12; new teen program just released. e-Tour program – Coleman partnership supporting a mobile summer educational program of LNT demonstrations, interactive activities, and education to select retail stores across the country.

Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics: Role and Function Frontcountry program – LNT educational efforts focused on regional, state and city parks with low impact outdoor practices for day and overnight outings close to roads. State Advocate program - encourages localized support and training as well as regional volunteerism; website info by state. Scholarship program – funding for various training courses and materials grants for educators. International programs - branch organizations in Australia, Canada, Ireland, with assistance to numerous other countries.

LNT Education Review Committee (ERC) LNT Education Review Committee (ERC) Created by the Leave No Trace Board of Directors in Goal Statement: To coordinate reviews and ensure the quality of consistent LNT educational materials and training programs based on the best available scientific research and outdoor experience.

The Role of the ERC The ERC is an advisory committee reporting to and advising the Leave No Trace Executive Director and Board of Directors. The committee develops, administers, or approves LNT literature and training programs: Develops and reviews LNT educational materials. Develops and reviews LNT-authorized training programs, including course objectives, content, and curriculum. Reviews ensure that LNT messages are consistently and effectively presented and are based on the best and most applicable research and outdoor experience.

ERC Membership ERC membership is comprised of one or more representatives of each cooperating federal agency and the LNT Center staff, with additional representatives from outdoor education organizations, science, state agencies, and frontcountry management organizations.

Use, Alteration, & Development of LNT Materials The ERC reviews new and existing LNT educational material for accuracy and consistency. The ERC reviews and critiques any text related to LNT education that deviates substantially from previously reviewed and approved wording. ERC review is designed to ensure programmatic consistency, nurture material development of the highest quality and an experiential perspective for anyone refining or developing LNT materials.

Council Outdoor Ethics Advocate Serves as the local councils point person for facilitating Leave No Trace training and ethics for youth and adults. Coordinates with council committees (Training, Camping, Conservation, Program). Responsibilities: Training (developing instructor corp, organizing courses), Recruiting (youth/adults for courses), Program Promotion (lead promotional efforts), Reporting (to Council and National).
