CELL DIVISION.  When cell divides forming 2 new cells  Prokaryotic cells  Called Binary Fission  Split into 2 parts  Eukaryotic cells  Called Mitosis.
Mitosis = New Cells Results in 2 identical daughter cells 4 chromosomes  4 chromosomes.

Breakdown of Mitosis. M.
Mitosis A form of eukaryotic cell division that produces two daughter cells with the same genetic component as the parent cell.
The Cell Cycle InterphaseMitosisCytokinesis How do cells produce more cells?
Most of a cell’s life cycle is spent growing and developing; and this is called interphase. During interphase the nucleus can be clearly seen. The chromosomes.

By: Casey Lund. Stage 1 Interphase  Grow  DNA replication  Prepares to divide.
THE CELL CYCLE. Producing new BODY cells allows you to: 1. Grow 2. Replace dead cells Ex: Stomach so acidic that cells lining must be replaced every few.

Mitosis and Meiosis. The Cell Cycle DNA: contains the information that tells a cell how to make proteins. Chromosomes: coiled structure of DNA and protein.
Cell Replication. Binary Fission is how prokaryotic cells (bacteria) copy themselves. The DNA copies and separates, and the cell wall splits the cell.

Presentation transcript:

Stages of Mitosis

What’s this stuff? Nuclear membrane Chromosomes Cell membrane

Interphase The cell grows about twice it’s original size The DNA makes a copy of itself

Prophase The DNA condenses The nuclear membrane disappears

Metaphase The chromosomes line up along the middle of the cell

Anaphase The chromosomes are pulled apart and start migrating to either end of the cell

Telophase The cell pinches and starts to divide Nuclear membrane reforms

Cytokinesis The cell’s cytoplasm and organelles split into two identical daughter cells
