Do Now: An American God HW Preview Tim & Moby 12 Tables Flashcards

 WWBAT identify the Republic form of government in Rome  The Roman Republic   -The Romans wanted to set up a government that was for the people and by the people.  -Roman people decided to come up with a set of laws that applied to all Roman citizens (all males over the age of 16).  -Wanted to be ruled by elected leaders that were voted into office every year (yearly elections).  -Created a new set of laws called The Twelve Tables. These laws applied to all men, were engraved on metal, and placed in the forum for all to see and read. 

 Wealthier land owning Romans, Made up senate  -Upper Class Citizens   - Nobility-Wealthy Government Officials  - Wealthy Landowners

 Tradesman, craftsmen, farmers   -Lower Class Citizens   -Lower Class Citizens  -The Common People

 elected by Plebeians and protected their rights

 Rome’s Military Leaders

  B.C.E  -Tarquinius Superbus  -Romans were sick of the tyrannical leaders and Tarquin was the last one  -Son was accused of raping a village woman while the men were away at war  -This accusation was the last straw for the Romans and they decided to act and depose Tarquin.  -Tarquin was exiled from Rome 
