Welcome Back! It’s going to be a great 8 th Grade Year!!

Daily Arrival  Come in the cafeteria doors  Get your breakfast right away if you are eating  Find a place to sit and stay there…no moving from place to place  You may use your electronics….if listening to music or playing games with sound you need headphones  Stay away from the 6 th and 7 th graders that are eating breakfast  Do not let 6 th /7 th graders stay in the cafeteria after they finish eating  Use the restrooms in the cafeteria

Going to Morning Tutoring or the Library The only reason to leave the cafeteria in the morning is to go to the library or to tutoring. For both of those you need a pass If you forgot to get a pass signed, I will sign one for you in the morning in the cafeteria The tutoring entrance door is down Main Street across from the main Gym

The coaches said you may take your football equipment back to the locker room in the morning after a game Go down the Fine Arts hallway to the locker room and when finished come straight back to the cafeteria Do not use the restrooms by University….those are for the 6 th graders in the morning.

There are new rules for electronics You may use them in the morning until the first bell rings You may use them if I take you outside during lunch You may use them in the classrooms if the teacher allows you to with supervision You may NOT use them in the hallways between classes You may NOT use them in the cafeteria during lunch You can NEVER use them in the restroom or locker room. These are RED ZONES…if caught using electronics you will receive a Thursday class

4 STAAR Exams You have 3 chances to pass Math and Reading STAAR to be promoted to high school You need to pass your classes if you want to be promoted to high school 8 th Grade is NO JOKE You know how to behave appropriately No more warnings or conferences Be a Leader THINK Before you Speak and Before you ACT Your words and actions have consequences

 We are taking work completion seriously….if you don’t do your daily work, you will not be successful on your summative grades  Nothing hurts your average more than a zero  There is no excuse for not turning in your work  Try and get organized  Look on your teacher’s website for assignments if you are missing something  Ask the teacher for another copy if you lose something

 There will be a ZAP class on the Thursday before each progress report or report card upload  The first ZAP is Thursday, Sept. 10  If you have any missing Math, Rela, Science, or History assignments, your teacher will contact your parents and let them know you have been assigned a ZAP class  You can get off the ZAP list if you turn in the missing work before that Wednesday afternoon at 4:00  Teachers will have a visual list of students that owe late work in their rooms  If the work is still not turned in you must attend ZAP

 ZAP is for 2 hours. You can attend in the morning 8:00-10:00 or after school 4:00- 6:00  You must stay the entire 2 hours regardless of whether or not you finish the late work  If you come to morning ZAP you will meet the ZAP teacher in the cafeteria and you must be there by 8:15 or you will not be admitted  If you attend afternoon ZAP we will send a note and call for you at the end of 7 th period  You must bring the missing assignment with you. We will have textbooks, paper, and pencils if you need them.  We will collect the work at the end of ZAP and return it to your teacher for grading whether you are finished or not

Don’t let your Team and Yourself Down…..Do your work and pass your classes

 If you are an athlete you need to attend morning ZAP so you will not miss practice  If your name is on the ZAP list and you don’t show up in the morning, you will be pulled from afternoon practice to attend ZAP and will receive consequences from your coaches for missing practice  Any student assigned to ZAP who does not attend will be assigned a 2 hour Thursday Discipline class for the following week, and will receive a zero for the missing work from that teacher.

When There is a CONFLICT At the early signs of a dispute students should report the problem to a staff member. When a fight does occur, law enforcement officials will be contacted.
