The Madera Region Regional Water Management Group Reaching both the Foothills & the Valley in the Center of California Madera Region

In 2006 the County of Madera began the IRWMP Process April 14, 2008 IRWM Plan completed for the Madera Region under Prop 50 On November 24, 2009, the Madera County Water Advisory Commission created the Formation Committee to create the Regional Water Management Group. January 2, 2010 the RWMG for the Madera Region officially formed. June 6, 2011 the Madera Region was recommended for full acceptance as a Region using the County Borders

Round 1 Implementation Grant Full Amount Awarded $9,413, (May 23, 2011) Project #1 – Ash Slough Arundo and Sediment Removal Project #2 – Cottonwood Creek, Dry Creek, & Berenda Creek - Arundo and Sediment Removal Arundo on Ash Slough

Round 1 Implementation Grant Project #3 – Root Creek Recharge Project Project #4 – Fuel Reduction for Forest Health & Fire Safety in the Sierra National Forest ( The first Forest Management Project funded as part of an IRWM which recognizes Watershed Health as a whole.)

Successes April 14, Completion of Integrated Regional Water Management Plan under Prop 50 standards & Accepted by the County Board of Supervisors February 2, 2012 – Received the first Facilitation Support Services Contract from the Department of Water Resources November 29, 2012 – Awarded DWR Planning Grant for $271,438 to update the Plan from Prop 50 to Prop 84 standards

Successes (continued) January 2013 – Finalized the creation and writing of the New Members Packet and the Application for the Dis-Advantaged Community (DAC) members May 8, 2013 – Received approval for a 2 nd Facilitation Support Services contract from the Department of Water Resources Currently have 18 signatory members and are actively recruiting others MOUs with our adjacent IRWM Regions: Southern Sierra Integrated Regional Water Management Group Yosemite/Mariposa Regional Water Management Group Merced Integrated Regional Water Management Group Inyo-Mono IRWMP – Devil’s Postpile National Monument Kings River IRWM Westside-San Joaquin RWMG – (pending signature)

Future Milestones/Goals the Next 12 Months 1.Formalize the Governance structure regarding the roles and responsibilities of the RWMG’s Project Manager/Coordinator, as well as stakeholders and voting members. 2.Conduct further outreach to DACs to encourage the addition of DAC stakeholders and/or members to the RWMG, and inclusion of DAC water quality and wastewater issues in the IRWM Plan. 3. Update the current Plan from Prop 50 to Prop 84 standards. 4. Five projects were submitted for a total of $6.2 million for the Round II Implementation Grant from DWR. These projects will begin if funding is received.
