Definitions  Management is the skillful handling or treatment of a task.  Resource management is the skillful handling of resources.  A Resource is anything that can be used to assist in the performance of a task

Resources Anything that can be used to assist in the performance of a task Types of resource:  Human Resource, energy, time, skill, knowledge.  Money, used to buy other resources e.g. food equipment  Commodities, food, equipment, fabric, wood, fuel, electricity, cleaning agent.  Community resources, libraries schools, hospitals. Task: Buy a car Resources needed: money, time, knowledge, energy.

Home Management  Def: Skilful handling of resources in the home  Aim of Home management: to provide a healthy and happy environment for the family Home Management involves:  Caring for the young  Providing a secure emotional background for family members.  Managing family finance  Managing family diet  Management of physical tasks e.g. cleaning

Home Management Home management involves the following steps:  Making Decisions/Setting goals  Identifying Resources  Planning  Action  Evaluation

Cleaning the House Organising a cleaning routine  Make a list of daily and weekly chores  Include all family members if possible  Work through the routine a few times and adjust if necessary  Organise chores logically to suit family lifestyle  Spread the weekly chores over the week

Ergonomics (Time and Motion studies) Def: Study of efficiency of people in the work environment  Planning time  Design and layout of equipment – easy to use, clean & reach.  The sequence of tasks so least amount of time & energy used.

Electrical Equipment Types: Large Appliances: cookers, fridges, freezers, washing machines, dryers, dishwashers. (white goods) Small appliances with motors: carving knife, food mixers, food processors. Small Appliances with elements: iron, kettle, deep fat fryer.
