Assignment #1 Rules and Procedures Please take out one sheet of lined paper. Please write your Name, Date and Class Color in the top right Corner. Title your paper “Rules and Procedures #1”

Tardy Bell 1. Students must be in their seat BEFORE the tardy bell finishes ringing. Any student standing around the room, talking, or late to the classroom WILL be marked tardy and owe time.

Passes 2. No bathroom or nurse passes during class. Extreme emergencies will cause you to owe 15 minutes for lunch. Take care of personal business before class starts.

Materials 3. Bring something to write with and line paper everyday to class. Quietly ask another student for materials when needed. Avoid asking the teachers for stuff. Bring completed homework and other assignments when due.

Questions and Answers 4. If at anytime you need to ask a question during the lecture you must raise your hand. It also follows that if the teacher asks a question for the class, you must either raise your hand, or you may be selected randomly to answer.

Food and Drink 5. No food, gum, candy or drinks (other than water in a closed container) will be allowed in class. The only exception that which is distributed by the teacher. Toss out food and gum as you enter the classroom.

Teacher Areas 6. The teacher’s desk, computer tables, overhead area, TA desk, etc. are off limits to students. This includes the teacher’s stapler, hole punch, tape, pencils, pens, papers, etc.

Missed work 7. It is your responsibility to obtain all missed quizzettes, notes, handouts etc on your own time. Do not ask during class time for makeup work as this is not a good use of time for everyone else.

Group Work 8. During partner and small group work, appropriate noise levels should be maintained – it needs to “sound like math”. Discussions should be related to the assigned task and all members are expected to participate and be on task. Individual voices should not be heard above the rest of the class.

Attention Everyone! 9. Counting down means that I need your attention. You need to get quiet so that you and others can hear directions, etc. It must be silent on 1 or attention practice may be required during your lunch time.

Good Citizenship 10. Keep your hands and your feet to yourself. Refrain from abusive language. Remain seated at all times Refrain from disruptive behaviors Respect all people

Note Taking 11. After the quizzette, students will take notes on the next exciting math activity. Students need to be listening and not talking during this time. Note taking goes by faster when students are undistracted and focused. This will mean more time in class to complete work. All uncompleted work will be your responsibility to complete at home.

Transitions 12. A transition is a task change in the classroom. Such tasks are whiteboards, turning in work, and passing in and out materials. Remain quiet and listen for instructions to avoid confusion. Talking during transitions will result in practicing during your lunch time.

Homework 13. Do homework when assigned. You will not receive an “A” for the class without completing homework. Test and quiz questions often come from homework problems.

Classwork 14. After taking notes on a concept, problems will be given to you to work on as guided practice. This should be done on a separate sheet of paper or on the worksheet given to you. Everything you do in class counts and will be graded.

Trash 15. Trash will be placed in the trashcans by the door as you leave class at the end of the period. Place trash on the corner of your desk for the reminder of the period. Trash left on the desk or on the floor will remain there for you to pickup during your lunchtime plus cleaning the rest of the classroom.

Group Up! 16. When “group up” is called, With a voice tone of zero take the six desk and turn them so it creates one large table with two students sitting on each side facing each other. The desk should be turned so that no student has their back to the front screen.

Grading 17. Grades are as follows: 50% Test and quiz (Assessments) 50% Classwork, homework, and participation =100% A+

Class Website Use the website to access most things taught in class. This is a great resource for makeup work and finding reviews for quizzes and tests.

Grade of “C” or better 18. CCSS Math 8 th is the first of common core classes that will be continued into high school. If you do not pass 8 th grade math with a C or better you must repeat the class again in high school with another teacher.

Lecture 19. When the teacher talks, students will look forward, take notes, and not talk. If a student talks, passes notes, or communicates in any way to another student, students will go the thinking station.

Test and Quiz 20.Quizzes will be given EVERY Friday. Every few Fridays there will be a test instead of a quiz. Test and quiz are worth 50% of your grade. It is important you do the best you can as it is worth half of your grade! Tests will have more points then quizzes.

Wednesday Please take out your rules and procedures from yesterday. If misplaced take out a separate sheet of paper. 2.Please take out something to write with and be prepared to start before the bell rings.

Many students last semester fell a letter grade from not turning in completed work from subs. If the class receives a grade of “D” or “F” we will work on social skills during lunch. ☹
