Red River Basin (Treaty of 1818)- G.B. receives everything north of the 49 th parallel. Adams-Onis Treaty- U.S. purchases Florida from Spain ($5,000,000)

1845- Texas Annexation Texan settlers broke away from Mexico and war ensued U.S. gov’t. formally stepped in and annexed (took) Texas Leads to the Mexican/American War

1846 Oregon Treaty Oregon was claimed by several countries but had no gov’t until this treaty Treaty of 1846: U.S. received Oregon territory and GB solidified Canadian boundaries from the 49 th parallel on North Averted possible war with GB
