12 Policy and planning Advocacy is: Influencing change in political and bureaucratic processes on behalf of someone or some group The process of using information strategically to change policies that affect the lives of people A planned strategic process which groups and individuals can use to bring about change Advocacy is not:- Threats, arrogance, undermining, subversion, bribes, or drowning out alternative views

13 Policy and planning Evidence-based advocacy Advocacy should be based on research or collection of data rather than opinion or rumour. Evidence-based advocacy:- is your authority – gives you legitimacy is thorough so that you have credibility when arguing your position – you know the counter arguments and can back them up with reputable sources should be shared with other groups.
