/7 The Discussion of Media Selection and Accessible Equity in Distance Education Yang, J.F. (2006).The discussion of media selection and accessible equity in distance education. Journal of American Academy of Business,10(1), Presenter: Yu-Ting Tsai Instructor: Ming-puu Chen

/7 Introduction There are many factors that influence media selection strategy: learning objectives, subject content, teaching method, learning expectations, time, facilities, and societal expectations that drive the education market. Expensive, fancy distance media are not necessarily equated to produce the best educational quality.

/7 Distance Education in East and West In the East, students are more passive and teaching is more teacher-centered. In the West, students are more active and teaching is more learner-centered.

/7 Distance Education in East and West Peterson(1997)stated, “Higher education continues to change from a teacher-centered focus to a learner-centered focus.” Student-centered teaching approaches call for integration of media and experiential activities, as well as more flexible teaching methods.

/7 Instructional Design in Diversity Cultural Environment A successful distance educational development in the global society should based on diverse considerations such as learner characteristics, teaching styles, available resources, and fit of plans to the local, regional, or national educational goals and missions.

/7 Access and Equity in Distance Learning Development of distance education across the world is influenced by economics, politics, technology, and societal issues (Shoemaker,1998). Nations can use educational opportunities as an important tool for promoting national economic development. From an economic point of view, students who receive education see it as an important process to improve working ability, professional knowledge, and social status.

/7 Conclusion Media can influence levels of learning objectives, learning outcomes, if faculty will use media appropriately. The biggest challenge on distance education will still be to match instructional methods to the features of media technology.
