The Doctor talked very sophisticated and no one talked as good as him when it came to medicine and surgery. He loved astronomy and the four humors so, he based his practices on it. His apothecaries provided him with his medicine when he needed it. He was well-versed in Aesculapius. The Doctor had no time for superfluities for pleasure. The Doctor’s Main Points

 What specific occupation does the Doctor practice? –The specific occupation the Doctor practices is being a physician. He works in medicine and surgery. Question 1

Question 2  What is Chaucer’s tone toward his character and how does he convey it? –Chaucer’s tone toward the Doctor is sophisticated, but pragmatic. He conveys this through the lines. “ No one alive could talk as well as he did on points of medicine and surgery ( ).” Also, In the end of the lines for the Doctor, Chaucer shows how greedy he is and how he has a love for gold.

Question 3  What was his or her social standing? –The Doctor’s social standing was high class and he was extremely wealthy. However, he was selfish, greedy, deceptive, and immoral. He kept all his earnings to himself. Also, he was perceived to be a wonderful physician, but he was careless.

Question 4  What might your character’s day to day life be like? –The Doctor’s day to day life might be very luxurious for himself. Also, it might be filled with surgeries and medical visits. Also, he did not read the bible very much.

Question 5  What details does Chaucer include about the character’s physical appearance and personality ? –Some details Chaucer includes about the Doctor’s physical appearance and personality is the Doctor wears “blood-red garments, slashed with blush-gray and lined with taffeta ( ).” The Doctor’s personality was non-religious, greedy, and smart in medicine, surgery, and astronomy. He was well-versed, but selfish.

Question 6  What modern day occupation might correspond to your medieval character and why? –The modern day occupation that might correspond to our medieval character, the Doctor, would be a regular doctor, physician, or a pharmacist because most doctor’s are wealthy, smart, and pharmacist deal with medicine.
