Welcome to our Flat Kid Presentations June 14, 2006

What is a flat kid? Flat Kids are our shadows. On Groundhog’s Day, we traced our shadows with the help of our book buddies. In mid-February we sent our Flat Kids on vacation. In our Flat Kids’ suitcase we packed a journal so we could find out all about his or her adventures. In late March our Flat Kids began to return from their vacation destinations. We hung our Flat Kids in the “Flat Kid” hallway. We read the Flat Kid journals to learn about each adventure.

From Flat Kid to Flat Kid Presentation After our Flat Kids arrived back at Caley Elementary School, Mrs. Murphy, our Librarian and Mrs. Amtsberg worked together to help us learn about the state or country our Flat Kid visited. We used books from the library to research (yes, she said research) our state. We learned about the state flower, the state bird and the state flag. We wrote at least one sentence about the flower, the bird and the flag. Then we went to the computer lab to begin work on our presentations.

From sentences to Power point Presentations When we arrived in the computer lab, Mrs. Popek the computer lab assistant and Mrs. Amtsberg worked with each of us to help us learn about how to make a slide for our slide show presentations. In April, we used a template to write a slide story about our trip to the Philadelphia Zoo. We presented our Zoo projects to our Grandfriends on Grandfriend’s Day. We did all the work. Mrs. Popek and Mrs. Amtsberg were our guides on the side. From choosing the correct layout, to enlarging the text box, to changing the background color, to typing the sentences, to inserting the pictures, we did it all on our own!! When we finished our slide shows. We practiced them with Mrs. Amtsberg, Mrs. Popek and Mrs. Malloy.
