Presentation transcript:

The first armored vehicles were designed with plating for protection against bullets, shells and other projectiles.

The British developed an invention with the potential for turning the tide of the Great War Armored vehicle known as the tank. Also called land ships.

Early armored vehicles move on wheels before eventually moving on all tracks.

Compared to other weaponry, the tank was the most rapidly developed weapon system in the history of warfare.

The American-produced heavy tank was the 43.5-ton Mark VIII, patterned after a British model

operated by an 11-man crew, had a maximum speed of 6.5 miles per hour, and a range of 50 miles.

Tanks were use more then armored vehicles because tanks wouldn’t get stuck in the mud alone the trenches as easy.

The cars were shielded with 3/8" thick armor plate, fitted with dual rear axles and two machine guns, with 3,000 rounds of ammunition.

The Austro-Daimler armored vehicle was developed in Austria during 1904 and it was the first military four wheel drive application,

Before World War I, motorized vehicles were still relatively uncommon,

In 1914 all major armies had armored cars and trains at the start of the war.

Lighter armored cars soon became commonplace with all the belligerents.

WWI armored cars proved to be astonishingly durable

their use on the battlefield was initially limited, especially of heavier vehicles

The British would lead the Allies in the development of motorized armored vehicles,

In February 1915 the Landship Committee was set up

desgins for a massive troop transporter but as a truer picture of front-line conditions was developed the aims of the investigation changed.

The British led the way in the development of tanks

The British developed an invention with the potential for turning the tide of the Great War Armored vehicle known as the tank

Was new method to overcome the obstacles of a level playing field with enemy forces. Gave them a better chance to win.
