Muscular System
MUSCLES
Types of Muscle Tissue Humans have three different types of muscle tissue. Smooth Muscle Cardiac Muscle Skeletal Muscle
Skeletal Muscle These are the muscles that are attached to the skeleton. They are voluntary because the contraction can be consciously stimulated and controlled by the nervous system.
Cardiac Muscle The muscle that makes up the heart. Contraction of the cardiac muscle is rhythmical; it occurs without outside nervous stimulation and without conscious control.
Smooth Muscle This muscle is located in the walls of hollow internal organs. (stomach) It is slower to contract than skeletal muscle, it does not fatigue easily. Contraction of this muscle is involuntary, occurring without conscious control.
Functions of Muscles The tendons of muscles extend across joints, stabilizing them. (the skeleton would fall apart if the tendons and ligaments did not stabilize the joints) Movement (body movement, breathing, blood flow, food digestion) Provides heat, which is used to maintain body temperature HELPS MAINTAIN POSTURE

Myosin & Actin
The body has 640 individually named skeletal muscles. Tendons connect the muscle belly to the bones. It would be impossible for you to do anything without your muscles. Skeletal muscle comes in pairs. For example (biceps/triceps)
