Read/ Work on Assignments Quietly

 Write the OBJ, HW, and W/U on page 99.  Warm-up: Answer in notebook. 1. What are the 4 major functions of the skeletal system? 2. What are the 4 major joint types? Give an example of each. 3. What does bone marrow produce for the body?

Voluntary Muscles  Muscles that you are able to control.  You choose to move them Involuntary Muscles  Muscles that you cannot control  They work on their own

Skeletal Muscles  Move bones  Most common type  Tendons: thick bands of tissues attached to bones  Ligaments: thick bands of tissues connecting muscles to muscles  Voluntary  Contract quickly and tire more easily  Look striped or striated

Cardiac Muscle  Found only in the heart  Striated  Involuntary

Smooth Muscle  Found in the internal organs  Ex. Intestines  Involuntary  Contract and relax steady

 When one muscle of a pair contract, the other relaxes  Muscles always pull  Over time, muscles can become larger or smaller, depending on their usage  Blood carries, energy-rich molecules to the muscles so they can do their work.

 Complete the Muscle Fatigue Lab.  For the Clothespin Squeeze Trial 1: keep squeezing the clothespin until you can’t anymore and write down how many times you squeezed it.  Same for the fist squeeze and book lift.  Continue on to Trial 2 and Trial 3 for all 3 activities.  Then answer the 3 questions on the bottom of the page.
