Math Writing in math

State the problem. Do not assume the reader knows what you are talking about. Explain the problem in detail so the reader understands the problem.

Present the answer in a complete sentence. The answer must stand alone. Variables must be explained.

State assumptions related to formulas Explain what assumptions were taken to solve the problem

Explain how the problem was approached Outline steps taken to solve the problem and why these steps were selected.

Explain how each formula was derived. Use variables which are defined. Explain where you got the formula.

Is the math correct? Check your work.

Check your writing Label diagrams, tables, graphs, etc. Check spelling, grammar, and punctuation, etc. Cite sources used to solve the problem.

WORK ON THE COOKIE PROBLEM Use the steps you learned in writing in math.
