The FIA 20 year old representative body of the UK health and fitness sector UK health and fitness industry is the largest in Europe - nearly 6000 operators nationwide Work in close partnership with Government, commercial and community organisations Members from the full industry spectrum (multi to single site providers across public, private and charitable sectors)

FIA Mission To improve the health and well-being of the UK population through encouraging more people, more active, more often Achieved by: Government delivery partner 100% industry representation 2012 legacy Consumer champion

The Origins 2008 Andrew Lansley in opposition set up a Public Health Commission looking at a potential ‘Responsibility Deal’ Chaired by Dave Lewis, Unilever, the PHC produced a report ‘ we’re all in this together’ in May 2009

Recommendations from PHC - Summary Educating on three key messages o A healthy diet o Energy In – Energy Out Balance o Responsible Drinking Eat & Drink appropriate quantities and increase activity o Encourage reduction in portion sizes o Government should develop match-funding schemes to encourage the promotion of physical activity o Physical activity repositioned as a healthcare provision, reducing VAT options Ring-fenced Public Health Budgets Building Genuine Partnerships
