Since the plane’s altitude is only accurate to within 100 ft, this controls the accuracy of the addition problem. By rule 2 above, the sum has the same accuracy as the least accurate measurement. The altimeter cannot distinguish between 35,500 ft and 35, ft. Therefore the answer is 35,500 ft, not 35, ft.
