Mrs. Teta’s Intro Paragraph In 2012, the Humane Society estimated that approximately 47% of American households owned at least one dog. These numbers indicate just how widespread dog-ownership has become. Dogs are an important part of many people’s lives, so it is no surprise that the household dog is affectionately referred to as “man’s best friend.” Despite this, some may argue that cats make more loving and friendly pets. Ultimately, dogs are exceptional and life- changing pets. In my own life, dogs have provided me with boundless friendship and compassion. Likewise, novels such as Because of Winn-Dixie portray dogs as loveable and heroic characters. History too has shown us that dogs were dutiful companions during World War I. Consequently, these instances prove that dogs are kind and loyal pets that will surely hold the title of “man’s best friend” for years to come.
