Attendance: Students are picked from the morning line-up at the P.E. Court by 8:20 A.M. Instruction begins shortly after. Tardies: after 10 tardies, the attendance clerk will write a referral that remains on file. Absences: After 1o unexcused absences, your child will need a doctor’s note in order for the absence to be considered excused. When your child is absent always send a note explaining the absence.
Dismissal: If there is ever a time that the method of dismissal changes, you must always notify us in writing.
Ways to contact me: The best way to contact me is through . I check my periodically and I will always ensure a response as soon as possible. If you haven’t already done so, check out our new school website Next, click on faculty and find my name. There you will find many useful links as well as updates. You may also send in a written note with your child. If you ever feel the need to meet with me about your child’s progress, we can schedule a conference between 2P.M and 3P.M. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday.
School Supplies: Home Learning Binder X-tra Large Zip-Lock Bag used to house Library books Headphones in Zip-Lock At least 3 sharpened pencils daily Please check your child’s book bag daily to ensure that your child is staying organized.
Water Bottles: Your child has Physical Education classes for one hour twice a week (Mondays and Tuesdays). It is extremely hot at the time that they go out there (2-3). Therefore, please ensure that they have a water bottle for those days.
Reading: Accelerated Reader Program (Levels, selecting books and testing on their level) Goal for each marking period (9 weeks) in Second Grade is 6 points for the regular classes and 9 points for Cambridge. Fluency (daily practice) Suggested 30 minutes of reading per night! Additional Resource: Evan Moore Reading Comprehension Book. We will be placing an order for these in the next two weeks. The cost will be $8 The Second Quarter we will be ordering a chapter book the entire class will be reading (more information will be given as the date gets closer).
Cambridge Program: You may be asking yourself “how is the Cambridge Program different from the other classes?” Fast paced Higher Order Thinking Lessons/Activities More use of technology More hands-on activities More fieldtrips designed to bridge the learning occurring in class to experiences. Supplemental Materials (ie. Class Set of Chapter Books, Scholastic News, Plays, and projects).
Social Studies: Scholastic Magazine/We are in the process of ordering a class subscription. The cost per student will be $5
Standardized Test: Your child will be taking the Stanford Achievement Test (SAT) the week of April 13 th -17 th 2015.
PTA: PTA dues are $6, the class with 100% parent participation will receive a pizza party! The PTA is the organization that orders all the awards your children get at the quarterly awards assemblies as well as the trophies and medals at the end of the year! Please show your support!
Upcoming Events/Mark you calendars! Fieldtrip to view Dolphin Tale 2 on October 3 rd ! Hispanic Heritage Social/Parents bring a dish from your native country including a recipe card. Students and Parents will enjoy a morning of music and food from all around Latin America! This event will take place on October 17 th at 8:45 A.m. Invitation will be sent home.
