SG 1 Effective integration of language learning into carrier development and progression

SG 1 WHAT IS IN COMMON? ELT is part of basic officers training We all struggle with maintaining language skills obtained ELT is unique for every nation based upon national educational traditions and status of their armed forces Very different carrier models for OFF and NCOs

SG 1 BASIC MILITARY ENGLISH PROGRAMS: Nations have opted for a wide ranges of options, Unique solutions rather than commonality 3333 seem to be an average target for officers NCOs lacking training almost everywhere

SG 1 STANAG COURSES: New NATO countries and partners concentrate on capacity ELT building Some nations (AUS, UK, US) deliver ELT STANAG/like courses for partners and allies Foreign languages other than English delivered as stand/alone courses

SG 1 LANGUAGES FOR SPECIFIC PURPOSES: Delivered Just In Time Almost always delivered to personnel that have been tasked to deploy in mission or a NATO staff assignment Delivery is time critical Cultural aspects of increasing importance

SG 1 LANGUAGE MAINTENANCE The average nation does not do much (due to finance, lack of understanding and others) Fine potential for sharing and cooperation Suggest a survey to be posted on BILC website to be filled out by nations
