You will be studying for TWO separate GCSEs in your English Lessons You will be studying for TWO separate GCSEs in your English Lessons. These are: English Language And English Literature Level 3 courses at schools and college will probably be looking for grade 5 and above in Maths and English. If you do not achieve this by the end of Year 11, then you have to continue to re-take these subjects until you gain this grade or turn 18 This makes these two subjects particularly important.

There is NO coursework for either of the English GCSE’s There is NO coursework for either of the English GCSE’s. You will sit: Two Exams for English Language and Two Exams for English Literature. You will not be allowed to take your Literature texts into the exams and will have to learn quotes off by heart. You will need to start to learn these in Year 10.

English Language (1 WHOLE GCSE) Paper One: Explorations in Creative Reading and Writing Section A: Reading one literature fiction text Section B: Writing descriptive or narrative writing Written exam: 1 hour 45 minutes 80 marks 50% of GCSE

Paper 2: Writers' Viewpoints and Perspectives Section A: Reading one non-fiction text and one literary non-fiction text Section B: Writing writing to present a viewpoint Written exam: 1 hour 45 minutes 80 marks 50% of GCSE

English Literature (One WHOLE GCSE) Paper 1: Shakespeare and the 19th-century novel Shakespeare play: Macbeth The 19th-century novel: (A Christmas Carol or Jekyll and Hyde) Written exam: 1 hour 45 minutes 64 marks 40% of GCSE
