 What do you like about nighttime?  What do you dislike about it?  My favorite thing about nighttime is __________________.  My least favorite thing about the nighttime is

I stand beside my window And I listen, and I look. As the nighttime tells its secrets I can read them like a book. I can hear the owl hooting As it searches for its prey, And I hear the small things scurry As they try to get away. I see branches bend and quiver In the soft light of the moon, And I know that I’ll see deer tracks When I look outside at noon. As I climb beneath my blankets And I start to drift toward sleep, I begin to dream of nighttime And its secrets that I keep. What does the speaker see and hear in the night? An owl, small animals, and the moon Does the speaker like or dislike nighttime? How do you know? He or she likes it. He or she thinks it is secret and exciti ng.

 A detail is a small piece of information that is part of a larger whole.  The word is…  detail  What is the word?  detail  Why is it important to pay attention to every detail ?  What is one detail you can state about the birds’ trip?

 When something moves through the air lightly and quickly, it is fluttering.  The word is  fluttering  What is the word?  fluttering  What might cause a flag to be fluttering ?  What part of the birds’ bodies is fluttering during their journey?

 Turn to page 200.  Let’s look at the genre information.  The purpose for an informational narrative is to inform.  You can reread to find the meanings of unfamiliar words. FIRST NEXT THEN FINALLY
