CA Standard 4.0 Students simplify expressions before solving linear equations and inequalities in one variable, such as 3(2x-5) + 4(x-2) = 12. CA Standard 5.0 Students solve multistep problems, including word problems, involving linear equations and linear inequalities in one variable and provide justification for each step.

CST Review Project Creating a Math Game

Name: ___________Block: __ Date: ______ CST Board Game: Project Guidelines

With your team, you will create a math board game that reflects the material that we are reviewing in preparation for the upcoming Algebra 1 CST. Over the next weeks, you will work together to develop related game questions each day in class. In addition, you will plan and create the game and game board itself. You will also present your game to the class in the form of a sales pitch.

Theme: Create a theme for your game (sports, beach, under the sea, etc.) Note: You can redo a popular board game if you wish.

Game Directions: Clear, step-by-step, instructions on how to play the game. They must include: 1. Number of players allowed 2. Materials included in the game 3. Goals of the game 4. Step-by-step instructions of how to play the game 5. How a player wins

Game Board: Draw a colorful and neat chart or board. Your game must include a “Start” and “Finish” and have spaces along the way. It must use color and be neatly drawn. Game Pieces: Choose or create dice, pennies, rocks, paper pieces, tokens, etc. that fit your theme. You must have game pieces so that at least four people can play the game at one time.

Game Cards: Each day in class, your group will be responsible for creating four review questions related to that day’s material. Game cards should be numbered, neat, and have a question on the front with a correct answer on the back. No work should be shown on the cards.

Game Packaging: You will create the packaging for your game. You will need to find some type of box (shoebox, gift box, old cereal box, etc.) If there is writing on the box, you will need to completely cover it with plain paper. The outside of your box must include the following items: 1. Name of the game 2. A catchy advertisement/slogan that would attract someone to play your game 3. A picture that relates to your game. This might be a picture of the game board, a picture of people playing your game, etc.

Project Timeline: The following calendar breaks down the daily tasks that you will do together with your group in class each day to complete the project on time. Your finished product will be graded on a rubric. You will receive a score for your board game, as well as for your participation in the project and the quality of your collaboration with your group.
