Yoa Ming makes 301 out of 371 free-throw attempts. What is his percentage of successful free-throw attempts?

301/371 = x 100 = 81%

Coach wants to pick the best player for free-throws, who should he pick? In warm-ups they made the following free-throws: Stephanie made 15 out of 20 free throws. Laura made 12 out of 15 free throws. Lauren made 13 out of 16 free throws.

Stephanie = 75% Laura = 80% Lauren = 81% The coach should pick Lauren, who has the best percentage of successful free-throws!

1/4 or 25% 1/2 or 50%

Five out of 73 middle school students said they look forward to practicing fire drills. What fraction, decimal, and percent is this?

5/73 = fraction = decimal 6.8% = percentage

What is an improper fraction? Provide an example.

A fraction in which the numerator is larger than the denominator. An improper fraction is a fraction that is greater than 1. Example = 5/2 = 5 halves and is equivalent to 2 1/2, which is greater than 1.

What is a mixed number? Provide an example.

A mixed number is a number that is written with both a whole number and a fraction. A mixed number is the sum of the whole number and the fraction. Example = 2 1/2

Make the improper fractions into mixed numbers: 13/3 24/3 26/3

4 1/ /3

Change the mixed numbers into improper fractions: 5 1/6 12 3/4 8 1/3

5 1/6 = 31/6 12 3/4 = 51/4 8 1/3 = 25/3

Explain in words how you get from 2 1/3 to 7/3. What does the fraction actually mean?

This means that you have 2 wholes and 1/3 left over. It also means 7 1/3’s.

You are invited to go have pizzas with your friends after school. When you get to the pizza place, your friends sit at 2 different tables. You can sit at either table. Table 1 - gets 3 pizzas to be shared by 2 people. Table 2 - gets 8 pizzas to be shared by 4 people. Since you are SO hungry, which table will you join?

Table 1 - gets 3 pizzas to be shared by 2 people. For the first table = 3 pizzas for 3 people, each person gets 3/3 = 1 whole pizza. Table 2 - gets 8 pizzas to be shared by 4 people. For the second table = you have 8 pizzas, for 5 people. Everyone gets 8/5 pizzas = 1 3/5 pizzas. You should pick table 2!!! You get 3/5 more pizza at table 2! YUMMMMYYYY!!!! :)
