School Improvement Meeting March 14, 2013 (Revised May 8, 2014)

Goal 1: 100% Attendance ( Never possible… but what can we do to stress the importance of attendance? More career speakers/attendance in the workplace/plus helps with career education?)

Smaller drawings per semester “fake money” to buy homework passes/early lunch and such Field trip Options to vote on South Henry Scholarships – scholarship for perfect attendance Quarterly breakfast for perfect attendance Community recognition – newspapers (Courier Times, Western Wayne) & Tri High Facebook page (recognize kids) Treat room for attendance Restaurant gift certificates Movie and bowling passes Ask Walmart if they would donate a Kindle (Donors Choose) Lock-in/movie night including pizza (GPA/perfect attendance)

Goal 2: 100% Graduation for Diploma track students? (incentives?)

Educate parents about importance of graduation. Show job options with & without diploma, and college. Tell them about vocational. Share ICE program. Make students aware of need for diploma to get job, be in the military Prize per quarter; each student without a zero has their name in the pot Free class ring, jacket, grad announcement Cash lottery All different diplomas need to be explained.

Goal 3: Character Counts-do more with this-need more ideas

Gotcha coupons for good behavior Have a prize room Donorchoose.org to ask for donations Character first contract Pizza Banners (We have these… Where should we hang these?)

Goal 4: Initiate a “No Bully Zone”- - develop a plan - mission - pledge - Teach / Instill : each person has a responsibility to “protect” his fellow neighbor Difference between Bullying and Just a mean student / situation.

Signed contract/ School Wide Policy – in handbook Definition of bullying needs to be explained (All students and staff watched a Power Point / defined Bullying - Difference between Bullying and a student being mean. Webpage – SRO Link / Hotline (a way to report bullying anonymously) Senior buddy system (to help 7 th graders to help deal with bullying) Teachers need to be vocal and visible. (Cell phone policy is being revised due to issues.) More cameras (36 cameras with remote web access to constantly watch the building – Grant approved to install more in “black spot” areas… interior and exterior.

Goal 5: Family & Community Involvement – 1. How do we get parents and students actively involved? (Extracurricular activities, school day, etc.) 2. What workshops need offered? Topics? 3. Reading Initiative activities (We have seen growth in this area!)

Make daily announcements available on the website. Workshop on access (show how to set up an ) for parents. Workshop on how to use Harmony. Sports-away games-take school bus for fans- insurance waiver-$5 each -$20 family cap – (Fan bus to Girls’ Regional Games) Family pitch –in, use cafeteria Award free admission passes for doing well on ISTEP/ECA/Perfect Attendance/Acuity/etc. Silver pass – ½ off school sponsored events (games, plays, etc.) Gold pass – free admission.

Goal 6: Improve teacher/parent communication/relationships

Make Harmony easier to use-personalize password for students & parents. (We still do not have this option. Harmony 3… coming soon… we hope!) Harmony doesn’t work on the older computers that are in some homes in the community. (1 to 1 technology – offer internet service for small fee) Parent/teacher dinner/snacks to get to know each other. Phone calls / s through Harmony - More parents have access (Phones)

Areas of Concern? Goals – still the same or need to add / subtract/ Strategies for Goals? Can we start a Jr. / Sr. High PTO? Is there interest from parents? How can we work together to better our school?
