What makes a good Year 12 student? Study skills Session 1- Note taking

Do you have good study skills? 1. Select a student from the group to be the guinea pig… 2. Complete the questionnaire on whether you have good study habits. You should try to complete this at the same time as YOUR guinea pig! tionnaire.pdf 3. Mark you answers…

What was your score? You have good study skills and know how to get the best out of your time You study skills are not what they should be. You need to really think about what you need to do to improve. From the quiz give yourself two study skills targets to improve by October half term.

In small groups try to come up with an answer to the question. Think about why we make notes. What is note taking and why take notes?

The 2 main reasons we take notes 1. Recording information to learn content that can be applied within essays and examinations. 2. To revise for examinations.

Now thinking about these 2 reasons In groups read the article given to you. ds/File/staff2.pdf ds/File/staff2.pdf Discuss how you would break it down, highlighters and post its are available to help. Try to extract the 5 main points the article makes and explain how you identified them. Be prepared to feedback.

Go back to the original question- have your answers changed? What is note taking and why take notes?

Now watch the following clip Draw a cartoon script or write a youtube tutorial script on how to take notes. Think about the techniques you have used.
