2 Mission The purpose of this project is to partner community colleges, business and industry, and professional organizations for the development of AST instructors and their curriculums so that both may more effectively incorporate emerging automotive technologies and current teaching and learning methods to better meet the needs of students and the automotive industry.

3 Vision: The NC automotive curriculum will be NATEF compatible and have courses that allow for local differences.

6 Goals 1.Revise curriculum to reflect latest technological developments. 2. Provide faculty with professional development to meet technological changes in curriculum. 3. Create a website for continuing education, teaching and student placement.

7 Goal #1: Revise curriculum Objective 1-1: Survey community college AST faculty to determine the curriculum and training needs associated with technological change –Task Completed and letters 95 instructors 50% return of responses NATEF standards.

8 Goal #1: Revise curriculum Objective 1-2: Form a Steering Committee and Advisory Committee. –Task Completed –Steering Committee 3 regions Large and small programs –Advisory Committee Business, industry across the state National reps

10 Goal #1: Revise curriculum Objective 1-3: Revise and restructure the NCCCS automotive curriculum to address the technology gap and reflect major advances in technology. –Task Completed –writing retreats and meeting –instructors updated the curriculum adding new content creating new courses to meet future changes 7 curriculum models

11 Goal #1: Revise curriculum Objective 1-4: Prepare curriculum manuals and field-test new curriculum at home sites (4) of Steering Committee during Fall semester of –Task Partially Completed –Curriculum manual was created on CD –Timeline was ambitious –Colleges going through certification or accreditation and didnt want to complicate those processes.

12 Goal #1: Revise curriculum Objective 1-5: Have the Advisory and Steering Committee study the need for a Spanish-speaking component to the automotive curriculum. –Task Completed –Local issue and not a statewide issue –Committees were in agreement

13 Goal #1: Revise curriculum Objective 1-6: Develop one online automotive course. –Task Completed –AUT 110- Introduction to Automotive –AUT 186- PC Skills for Auto Techs partially developed –Development of this course continues.

14 Goal #2: Provide faculty with professional development Objective 2-1: Survey community college automotive faculty to determine professional development needs associated with technological change. –Vote for training Hybrid vehicles Multiplexing.

15 Goal #2: Provide faculty with professional development Objective 2-2: Plan and offer workshops for AST faculty from all 38 colleges. Offer four workshops in each of the three regions as follows: –a. A workshop to discuss proposed curriculum changes and needed adjustments. –b. Two workshops to deliver training by factory/ industry instructors. –c. A workshop to provide training on new effective teaching and learning methods.

16 Goal #2: Provide faculty with professional development Objective 2-2: Plan and offer workshops for AST faculty from all 38 colleges. Offer four workshops in each of the three regions as follows: –Task Completed –It was not workable to have workshops/retreats in the regions Rotated throughout the state. –Four workshops/retreats to update the curriculum Montreat Center Trinity Center GTCC

Offer four workshops in each of the three regions as follows: –Four workshops to provide update training for the instructors. NATEF Tasklist software –personal CD for each auto instructor in the system Hydrogen fuel cell training –fuel cell car kit for each college Multiplexing and CAN bus by GM Hybrid training provided by Toyota. 18 Goal #3: Create a website Objective 3-1: Develop a common website for community college automotive system technology faculty to use as a resource for continuing education. –Task Completed –North Carolina Auto Diesel Instructors Association (NCADIA) –Communicate, review material and obtain resources
