How do these two women differ in appearance? Woman dressed in turn of the century Victorian fashion. Woman dressed in 1920’s fashion.

Let’s take a closer look… What differences do you see now? *Head covered *Long hair is pulled back into a bun *Neck is covered *No flashy jewelry *Head is uncovered *Hair has been cut short into a “bob” *Neck is exposed *Large earrings attract attention

What differences do you see here? *Dress is fitted with a corset *Long sleeves of dress reach down to wrists *Shoulders are covered *Dress is full length to floor *Skin exposed is minimal *Dress is loose fitting *Sleeveless *Shoulders are exposed *Dress length is to the knees *Considerable amount of skin is exposed

The artist of this print has used vibrant colors to depict this 1920’s “flapper”. Why is this significant? Because of this use of color, what do you notice about this woman’s appearance?

Another fad of the 1920’s was cigarette smoking.
