PROGRESS education sector Highlights To date over 35,000 children in school (increased) Back to School Campaign successfully concluded with active participation of Liberian/Ivorian children/parents NIMBA 19,373 CHILDREN (Liberian + Ivorian) IN ECD/PRIMARY Education activities continue in Butuo axis (SC), Loguatuo axis (IRC), Bahn camp (SC), and Gborplay axis (PLAN) On going – Over 17,000 children aged 6-12 in Primary Schools with 147 teachers 38% Ivorian, 62% Liberian children/AV.=115 children per teacher Over 1,400 children for Back to School cerebration events participated together with host community children

PROGRESS education sector GRAND GEDEH 12,108 CHILDREN (Liberian + Ivorian) IN ECD/PRIMARY EDUCATION On going ECCD activities for children aged 2-5 (79% Ivorian, 21% Liberian) On going Primary education for children aged 6-12 (65% Ivorian, 35% Liberian) MARYLAND 4,314 CHILDREN IN ECD/PRIMARY/SECONDARY/YOUTH CENTRE On going ECCD activities for children aged 2-5 (23% Ivorian, 77% Liberian) On going Primary education for children aged 6-12 (58% Ivorian, 42% Liberian) Expanding activities in 9 locations (4 in Harper City, 2 Camp Schools, 3 in Host Communities) RIVER GEE One school with 200 refugee children in 2-shift arrangement in Fishtown started, yet no school materials have been distributed

CHALLENGES education sector NIMBA Gap on the figure of registration and attendance continues especially in Border communities Schools in border communities in need of rehabilitation GRAND GEDEH Overcrowded classrooms for children due to lack of spaces/furniture WASH facilities still very limited Gap on the figure of registration and attendance due to ongoing relocation exercise – 1 school in Dougee Town closed down last week MARYLAND Issue of teacher incentives progressed but not fully resolved production of school furniture not progressed due to lack of funding RIVER GEE Distribution of school materials for refugee children not started in order to minimize the impact on the ongoing relocaiton exercise

WAY FORWARD education sector Follow-up monitoring continues on registration of children in schools with support of PTA/community members Resolution on payment of teachers incentives School furniture need to be placed immediately in schools/ECD centres/camp schools as many of them have very limited furniture Rehabilitation of WASH facilities/community school buildings in affected areas Education sector is supporting MOE-Liberia for the preparation of agenda to be discussed with MOE-CDI on the Education of Ivorian children CDIs MOE delegation expected to arrive in Monrovia on 28 Sep staying until 6 Oct.
