PROGRESS education sector Highlights Reporting period (6-19 Oct) 35,161 children in school 5-days Cluster Coordination training held with sector partners NIMBA 18,229 CHILDREN IN ECD & PRIMARY EDUCATION Education activities continue in Buutuo axis, Loguatuo axi, Bahn camp, and Gborplay axis 2,614 children aged 2-5 in ECD centres with 82 caregivers 16,579 children aged 6-12 in Primary Schools with 147 teachers

PROGRESS education sector GRAND GEDEH 13,892 CHILDREN IN ECD & PRIMARY EDUCATION ECD activities for 1,647 children aged caregivers Primary education for 12,245 children aged teachers Education activities in PTP camp commenced with 990 children MARYLAND 2,837 CHILDREN IN ECD, PRIMARY, SECONDARY & YOUTH CENTRE ECD activities for 1,135 children aged caregivers Primary education for 1,587 children aged teachers 115 Ivorian youth registered for vocational skills training classes RIVER GEE One public school offering educational opportunities to 200 refugees in Fishtown

CHALLENGES education sector OVERALL monitoring of school figures limited due to election period NIMBA Insufficient school facilities both soft/hard components Bad road conditions affecting delivery of educational supplies Insufficient teaching personnel to cover multi-year/multi-grade teaching GRAND GEDEH Lack of schools in HCs Liberian out of school children/youth Limited learning spaces by lack of school buidlings/classrooms Tent schools also need to be rehabilitated regularly to keep minimum quality for children Decrease of attendnace % influenced by relocation exercise to PTP Camp MARYLAND Teacher incentives issue not fully resolved/relocation ongoing RIVER GEE Road between Zwedru and Fishtown inaccessible

WAY FORWARD education sector To continue: Follow-up the action points on refugee education in consultation with MOE-Liberia and MOE-Ivory Coast Close monitoring on decrease of attendance compared to registration numbers in many schools, particularly girls Training of teachers & caregivers on child safeguarding & pedagogy Training of Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) members on school management continues Rehabilitation of WASH facilities using locally available materials/manpower from communities Strengthening of sector coordination mechanisms and partnerships Longer-term planning on linkage between emergency and regular education programmes: entering early recovery phase CAP process ongoing: drafted sectoral needs analysis
