Citizens for Safe Schools Mentoring Programs!

History Citizens for Safe Schools was founded in 1999 by Klamath County DA Ed Caleb and a teacher Debbie Vought and is an organization funded by community contributions and grants. I believe that the mentoring program facilitated by the Citizens for Safe Schools is an agency worth recognizing.

Mission

Promotion of Six Pillars of Character

Impact through Mentoring  “Mentoring programs that use community adults have become increasingly popular to help address the problems that arise from frayed social networks in many communities. And recent studies show that mentoring programs do enhance positive development…” (Chandler Barbour, 2011)

Why Volunteer as a Mentor?  “Today, 8.5 million youth continue to lack supportive, sustained relationships with caring adults (Cavell, DuBois, Karcher, Keller, & Rhodes, 2009).”  As funding is reducing and the economy is recessed it is important for our communities to partner with our families and our schools to support and assist with the future generations.

Testimonial Steve and Austin  Steve told the program when applying, “I am not a parent however I see so many young people who look like they have potential but were never shown how to get started and have a meaningful life. There are so many young people who desperately need guidance, my life is flexible now and it would give me great pleasure to give guidance and companionship to a young person.” Success story posted online by Citizens for Safe Schools located at website. (Citizens for Safe Schools, 2007)
