PROGRESS education sector Highlights Reporting period (10 – 18 Nov) 36,600 children in school 6 Camps 1,000 ECD children and 5,270 Primary children NIMBA – Bahn Camp Education activities continue in double shift 75 children aged 2-5 in ECD centers with 12 caregivers Current enrolment (75) -initial enrolment (263) 29% attendance rate 423 children aged 6-12 in Primary Schools with 24 teachers Current attendance (423) - enrolment (816) 52% attendance, initial registration is 1,339

PROGRESS education sector GRAND GEDEH 3,344 3,344 children in ECD centers and primary schools IRC opened primary schools in PTP camp 17 classes with 828 students PTA formed in PTP camp to help with school management issues Distribution of teaching/learning materials by partners MARYLAND – Little Wlebo Camp 2,187 children in ECD, Primary, Secondary and Youth centres ECD activities for 357 children aged caregivers Primary education for 1,830 children aged teachers Vocational skills training classes commenced for Ivorian youth

CHALLENGES in CAMPS education sector OVERALL attendance unstable due to relocation & spontaneous returns NIMBA Five students identified with chicken pox in Bahn camp Host school in Kaylay closed due to late payment of teachers incentives Children in Zorgowee stayed away fearing post electoral violence Parents taking children to farms to harvest crops GRAND GEDEH Fluctuations in daily attendance rates of students Inadequate classroom space and furniture in camp settings Damaged bridge before Tuzon town Some students running out of educational materials supplied earlier MARYLAND - Little Wlebo Camp School furniture remains a challenge

WAY FORWARD education sector To continue: Distribution of teaching and learning materials in schools IRC to start ECD services & open 4 additional classes in PTP camp Close monitoring on increase/decrease of attendance compared to registration numbers in all camp schools, particularly girls EiE awareness workshops by IPs in Nimba (Ganta) on 3 December Advocacy with parents/PTAs to stop child labour on farms Construction of temporary learning spaces & provision of furniture Strengthen coordination with camp management on camp school sites
