Citizen A citizen is a legally recognized (by the country’s government) member of a country Rights and Responsibilities (duties) could include: voting, paying taxes, volunteering, military service, jury service, etc.
Government Government is the organizations, institutions, and individuals who exercise political authority Examples: United States of America, the State of Florida, City of Boynton Beach, Somerset Student Government, the President, Politicians, Principals, etc. Types of government include: democracy, republic, communism, dictatorship, etc.
American Values Equality, Liberty, and Justice Americans stressed the importance of a country having these values in the Declaration of Independence and use the U.S. Constitution to ensure/ enforce/ protect these values Equality – equal rights for all people Liberty – freedom for all people Justice – protection of rights and freedom for all people
Qualities of a Good Citizen Informed, educated, votes, shares opinion, pays taxes, volunteers, involved in the community, protects fellow citizens, conserves natural resources, supports good values, etc.
