It’s all about a New Life Romans 6:1-23

It’s all about New Life Living for a New Lord Romans 6:15-16,22-23

15Well then, since God’s grace has set us free from the law, does that mean we can go on sinning? Of course not! 16Don’t you realize that you become the slave of whatever you choose to obey? You can be a slave to sin, which leads to death, or you can choose to obey God, which leads to righteous living.

Verse 15 It seems like Paul was answering a question from someone that might have been a Jewish legalist. Paul's opposition would say as today by some that faith alone would allow Christians to have a freewill to sin.

It could also be that Paul was addressing a Gentile Christian that had not fully understood the Christ like living. Paul response to this ridiculous question with a big fat No!

Favor (v15). It is because of God’s grace that we yield ourselves to Him. Paul has proved that we are not saved by the law and that we do not live under the law. The fact that we are saved by grace does not give us an excuse to sin, but it does give us a reason to obey. Sin and law go together. “The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law” (1 Cor. 15:56). Since we are not under law, but under grace, sin is robbed of its strength. Dr. Warren Wiersbe

The Christian life is not following certain rules; you can follow rules and regulations and still not be living the Christian life. Somebody asks, “Then what is the Christian life?” The Christian life is to be obedient unto Christ. It means communication with Christ. My friend, do you love Him? That’s the important thing. He says, “If ye love me, keep my commandments” (John 14:15) McGee, J. V. (1991).

16Don’t you realize that you become the slave of whatever you choose to obey? You can be a slave to sin, which leads to death, or you can choose to obey God, which leads to righteous living.

Paul reminds the readers that when you volunteer your life to either good or bad that becomes your master. One will lead to death and the other will lead to life.

“If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed” (John 8:36)—free to do what? You will be free to live for Him, free to obey Him. And the Lord Jesus said again, “… Verily, verily, I say unto you. Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin” (John 8:34). McGee, J. V. (1991).

How about you, what is your Master? Sin or the Savoir

The law stimulates sin and Grace liberates us from the power of sin.

22But now you are free from the power of sin and have become slaves of God. Now you do those things that lead to holiness and result in eternal life.23For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.

Paul moves to what the Christian can expect from their Master Jesus Paul moves to what the Christian can expect from their Master Jesus. A child of God will produce fruit which involves sanctification, a process of maturing or spiritual growth in the Lord. This process will shape you as a Christian and the end result is eternal Life. The Christian is set apart for a special divine purpose for God.

Paul summed it up with this next verse 23 Those who choose the way of sin earns its wages: Death Those who choose God’s way of salvation through Faith in Christ receive God’s Gracious Gift Eternal Life.

Conclusion We are to show our new life in Christ because of our new identity. We are to show our new life through our experience with Christ. We are to show our new life in Christ because of what God wants us to. We are to show our new life in Christ because we serve God, Not sin.
