Greetland Goldstars Safeguarding against SADS (Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome)

Summary Every week, 3 young people die unexpectedly from rare heart conditions they did not know they had. Greetland Goldstars have taken a massive step towards making Greetland Community Centre and Goldfields a safer place to be, by supporting the purchase of a defibrillator, along with other organisations based at the centre A defibrillator is a machine that delivers an electric shock to the heart when someone is having a cardiac arrest. Acting quickly when someone is in cardiac arrest and fighting for their life is crucially important. When someone goes into cardiac arrest, every minute without CPR and defibrillation reduces their chance of survival by 10%. Each manager of Greetland Goldstars has a responsibility to ensure they are aware of the logistics around the use of this machine. Awareness may safe a life...ignorance may result in death

QuestionAnswer Who has been trained on the usage of the defibrillator? A total of 6 Greetland Goldstars coaches have been trained on usage. Ian Bagley, Martin Bagley, Gareth Ewing, Luke Youell, Paul Dobbin and John King Who delivered the training? The charity entitled The Oliver King Foundation delivered the training. The charity exist to increase awareness of SADS and the benefits of being prepared Where will the defibrillator be located? It will be positioned in the Community Centre, on the shelves in the bar area where the sweets are kept. If I am a manager that has not been trained and there is an incident, what do I do next? One page instructions will be sent to all managers. It also talks you through step by step what to do. Will there be a drill conducted, to ensure that we have the correct steps and knowledge in the event of an incident? Yes. When the logistics have been agreed, there will be a mock drill conducted on the fields at Greetland. We will randomly select a manager, advising him of a ‘mock’ incident. Q and A
