The grants are there... “Grants are important because they represent over one-fifth ($10 billion) of general government expenditure in ” NSW Auditor General (current review) Extrapolating that amount for all State and Fed Gov = Over $60b 2

3 If there is one thing that you get out of today I hope it is that reacting to grant announcements is not going to help you in the longer term… YOU NEED TO PLAN AND THINK AHEAD

10 Philanthropic Trust Applicant must be DGR Partner (contractor) NON DGR Cannot just put in app and transfer funds to you – has to be actively involved – but this could be admin, reporting, evaluation or part of delivery---for a % fee Writes the app, does the work, develops a written partnership agreement – gets the bulk of the funding – this could be a multi pronged partnership too

Applications are assessed according to fit with the guidelines.”

13 Winning the grant – and more and more… Celebrate Internally – But first thing to do is say thanks Invite funders to any events, openings (if they attend acknowledge them in speech) Send regular reports and communications Acknowledge funders on all materials and verbally ….THEN LET THEM KNOW WHAT ELSE YOU WANT TO DO

14 Not winning is not losing in the future Murder is illegal Ask for a debrief -Should more information have been provided? -Was there one particular area (or many) where they could improve? - Would they consider another application in future?
