Assistive technology (AT) has the potential to narrow the gap between an individual’s capacity and their environment, and therefore to make it easier for people to remain in their existing accommodation. The extent to which AT can narrow the gap depends on people’s willingness to use it, which in turn can depend on a number of factors: the needs that people perceive and the outcomes they wish to achieve the perceived usefulness and value for money of the AT whether the individual feels that use of the device either supports or undermines their sense of personal identity
