IAPT is coming to a town near you! Jan Bagnall Senior Therapist/Professional Manager – Gloucestershire.

10/3/2015 7:20:40 AM Why? Lord Layard recognised the need to have over 250,000 therapists across the country to help deal with the increasing numbers of people with mental health issues….specifically depression and anxiety 1 in 6 adults suffer from mental illness at any time Only 39% of adults discuss this with their GP Nice guidelines state that CBT has the evidence base to successfully treat patients with anxiety and depression.

10/3/2015 7:20:40 AM Improving Access to Psychological Therapies One principal aim: To support Primary Care Trusts in implementing the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidelines for people suffering from depression and anxiety disorders.

10/3/2015 7:20:40 AM IAPT Target Population Aged 18+ suffering from at least one of the following conditions, either as a sole or co-morbid diagnosis: Depression Anxiety including: Panic Disorder with or without agoraphobia Phobias Health Anxiety Generalised Anxiety disorder Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (including Body Dysmorphic Disorder)

10/3/2015 7:20:40 AM Aims of IAPT To make access to psychological therapies easier- eg: hearing impaired people can access face to face help, people with visual impairments or physical disabilities can work over the phone if that is easier for them To reduce the stigma associated with mental health by having sessions in ‘ordinary community’ places such as GP surgeries, community centres, colleges, libraries To get people better, back to work or working more efficiently

10/3/2015 7:20:40 AM Visually impaired ? I would be very interested to hear how we can make the service accessible and suited to the needs of people who are blind or visually impaired If we have a website is that sufficient, ie can you access it in a suitable font or using speech recognition How do you want to be asked about leaflets and posters, currently we say - if you have any special needs or would like this leaflet in another language please ring the free phone number.

10/3/2015 7:20:40 AM CBT? Does anyone have any reservations about the use of CBT? Would you like to ask me about that?

10/3/2015 7:20:40 AM Any questions?
