Product Highlight - ICO What is it? When would I use it? What do I need to know? What does it look like? Where can I get more information?

What is it? A directory that tracks the ownership of the largest Canadian corporations and provides up to date information reflecting recent takeovers and other changes.

What is it ? Directory of corporations that are required to file a schedule of ownership under the Corporations Returns Act (CRA). Information on about 40,000 corporations. Changed the thresholds of inclusion for corporations in Assets greater than $200M and/or annual operating revenue greater than $80M and/or foreign equity or foreign debt of at least $1M. Pre assets exceeding $10M or annual operating revenue over $15M – about 95,000 corporations

Why would I use it? Who owns whom… In what industrial classification corporations fall under Who invests in certain corporations Where corporation headquarters are located

Why would I use it? From StatsCan: discover business opportunities via corporate structure information tap into new markets by identifying new corporate customers for your products uncover export opportunities by charting changes in foreign control segment potential customers by determining which corporations are active and where determine global exposure by researching multinational relations perform due diligence effectively and efficiently.

What do I need to know? Information comes from the CRA, Moodys, Who owns Whom. Researchers analyze options, insider holdings, convertible shares and interlocking directorates. Each corporation is assigned a country of control. Find out where parent companies are located. Corporation is considered to be foreign controlled if a majority of its voting rights are held in foreign countries OR are held by one or more Canadian corporations that are themselves foreign controlled.

What do I need to know? Demonstrates the portion of voting rights of a corporation owned or held by another corporate body or group of related individuals. All holdings of an enterprise are in one location. Within each enterprise structure, presentation is by size according to the number of corporations. Published quarterly
