James Kennedy Public Library Project Goals The Library Board and Director have identified a number of space use and functional goals that may be resolved through changes in space utilization.

Public Computers Identify a new location for the public access computers that will enhance customer support and allow direct visual observation by staff.

Staff Work Space Identify locations for two additional librarian staff workstations that are similar in character to those currently provided for other librarians. Organize the staff work areas to allow for effective work flow. Simplify the Director’s work space. Identify a staff break area location that is both accessible to staff and sequestered from public spaces.

Genealogy Room Utilization Identify ways to enhance utilization of the Genealogy Room.

Collections An appropriately sized collection. Additional shelving for the library’s media and large print collections. The scope, nature, and location of the reference collection. Retention of audio and video cassette formats.

Program Space Identify alternatives for additional public meeting space.

Gaming Activities A location is needed to house the games and puzzles collection. A location is needed for console gaming programs and competitions.

Community and Library Postings Keyed bulletin boards for public and library postings.

Public Floor Organization and Wayfinding Simplify the layout of the public floor. Provide a clear path through the middle of the building to act as an organizing element. Pull the study and casual seating together.

Issues for Resolution Sibley Public Library Space Utilization Plan Goals identified by library trustees during onsite workshop included:  Create additional shelving capacity for adult collections  Re-organize the Director’s office for increased efficiency  Create an area for Young Adults  Enliven the New Books display  Relocate all the public computer stations to the mezzanine and provide larger stations

Sibley Public Library Goals, continued Public Service Desk  Create an ADA compliant station at the public service desk.  Provide staff work space behind the public service desk.  Relocate fax machine to desk area from Director’s office.  Provide storage for the DVDs.  More space at the staff’s computer.

Sibley Public Library Goals, continued Meeting Room  Provide space for a stove and a refrigerator.  Obtain folding tables and dispose of the wood tables. Lobby  Enliven and tidy-up the entry lobby.  Consider if some of the lobby may be claimed for library service space.
