Case study: Alcoholic psychosis M rs L. aged 45 year olds, married. She is a housewife living with her husband and her 2 childrens at Ban Simuang village Vientiane Capital City.

History of the patient. She started smoking from the 1 st semester of her 1 st pregnancy, she smoked 5-10 cigarettes per day. After she gave birth, her son was not abnormal. When her 2nd daughter aged 16 years old she started drinking alcohol some time she mixed her drink between beer and alcohol roughly 200cc/day. The reason of drinking is to make her having good feeling and enjoy.

History of the patient :(continue) Finally she became alcoholism when her aged was 36 year olds. When she got drunk she stopped smoking. When her age was 44 years old she became alcoholic psychosis which consisted of delirium (a jalousie), visual hallucination (someone catch her). She could not stay still, wandered around her village and she did not sleep. Her hospitalization was taken in 1/1/04 at Mental Health Unit, Mahosot Hospital.

Treatment 1. Pharmacotherapy: During her hospitalization, neuroleptic was given (Largactil, haloperidol). In addition, diazepam was provided in case of her anxiety. Carpine, (carbamazepine) was also given due to she had affective disorder. Perfusion and Vitamino-therapie are used in case she loss appetite. The duration of her admission was about 7days. 2.Psycotherapy: is also provided during she was in hospital.

After- Care After discharging from the Hospital, she did not come to see the doctor anymore. Last month we visited her at home and she reported that sometimes, she still drank Beer with her friends and she had not any symptom but for smoking she already gave up. At the present, she has not physical and mental trouble. She becomes a food seller at the market. She can earn money about kip (50$) per month.
