Columbia University IN THE CITY OF NEW YORK Environmental Monitoring DOE Review June 2-3, 2009

Columbia University IN THE CITY OF NEW YORK 06/02/2009 Eric J. Mannel Monitoring Parameters to be monitored- – Cooling temperature (input/output) – Enclosure temperature – Humidity – Voltages – Currents – Light Levels

Columbia University IN THE CITY OF NEW YORK 06/02/2009 Eric J. Mannel Monitoring Pixel system has built in monitoring – Analog pilot chip on each ladder monitors Pixel ladder voltages Pixel ladder temperatures Data integrated in pixel slow control readout System must be powered to readout Power systems have built in monitoring – Channel voltage – Channel current – Software and hardware trips

Columbia University IN THE CITY OF NEW YORK 06/02/2009 Eric J. Mannel Additional Monitoring Environmental Monitoring using Adams System – Standard PHENIX system used to monitor other detector systems – Fully integrated into PHENIX Slow Control Monitoring Functions- – Air temperatures – Cooling temperatures – LV Systems parameters (Voltage, temp, current) – Detector specific signals (Humidity, Light, etc) Control Functions – Level 1 safety interlocks – Detector control functions

Columbia University IN THE CITY OF NEW YORK 06/02/2009 Eric J. Mannel Monitoring Hardware Advantech ADAM4XXX/ADAM5000 DAC modules – ADAM5000 is a rack mounted chassis containing a CPU and modules capable of digital and analog I/O – Communications over 38.4kbps multi-drop half duplex RS435 serial communications – RS435 to Fiber Optic translators provide the Interaction Region (IR) to Rack Room communications link – Operational parameters stored in flash memory and remotely downloadable PC in the control room provides the interface. – OPC based server – Data logged to database

Columbia University IN THE CITY OF NEW YORK 06/02/2009 Eric J. Mannel Radiation Damage Monitoring The most sensitive monitor of radiation damage is the leakage current of the silicon Single stripixel ROC at room temperature draws ~400nA Ladder will draw ~ uA Leakage current increase with radiation damage By measuring the change in the leakage current we can monitor the radiation damage to the silicon as a function of time.
