Plant Science Lesson 2: Cells organelles

Cell Wall Outside covering of cell that supports and protects the cell.

Cell Membrane Selectively permeable- A plant cell allows certain things to come through the cell membrane i.e. water, while blocking other things from entering.

The Cell membrane PSS.HO.1

Chloroplasts Contain Chlorophyll; where photosynthesis occurs.

Endoplasmic Reticulum Where proteins are created from DNA

Mitochondria Transfers energy from organic compounds to ATP ATP – Adenosine Triphosphate –Transfers energy from chemical bonds to energy absorbing reactions within the cell.

Nucleus Contains DNA and manages most functions of the plant

Nuclear Membrane Surrounds the nucleus

Vacuole Stores enzymes and waste products.

Cytoplasm The region of the cell between the membrane and the nucleus.

Cell Organelles PSS.PP.2 “Nothing in life is to be feared. It is only to be understood.” Marie Curie Marie Curie Now label the organelles

PSS.1.BCName: _________________ Label the organelles of the cell below.

Major Organelles of the Plant Cell answers Cell Wall 3 Cell Membrane 2 Chloroplasts 4 Endoplasmic Reticulum 8 Mitochondria 7 Nucleus 6 Nuclear Membrane 9 Vacuole 5 Cytoplasm 1 PSS.4.HO

Contains the DNA and manages most of the functions of the plant Cell membrane is selectively permeable in order to allow nutrients and other material in. Stores enzymes and waste products Contain chlorophyll and is the location where photosynthesis occurs. Transfers energy from organic compounds to ATP Surrounds the nucleus The region of the cell between the cell membrane and the nucleus Supports and protects the cell Where proteins are created from the DNA PSS.5.HO

“Battle of the Wits” PSS.2.PP

Surrounds the nucleus Question #1

Question #2 Extend through the cell membrane exposing it both to the outside and inside of the membrane. This allows the integral proteins to act as transport channels.

Question #3 Contains the DNA and manages most of the functions of the plant

Question #4 Has a polar and nonpolar end. The polar end likes water and the nonpolar end hates water.

Question #5 Are located on both the interior surface and the exterior surface of the cell membrane, they are linked to lipids or other proteins.

Question #6 Transfers energy from organic compounds to ATP

Question #7 The region of the cell between the cell membrane and the nucleus

Question #8 _______ is selectively permeable in order to allow nutrients and other material in.

Question #9 Supports and protects the cell

Question #10 Where proteins are created from the DNA

Question #11 Stores enzymes and waste products

Question #12 Contain chlorophyll and is the location where photosynthesis occurs.

Used to describe the cell membrane. Question #13
