TEKS 5.9B: Describe how the flow of energy derived from the Sun, used by producers to create their own food, is transferred through a food chain and food.
What is Energy?. Energy is the capacity for action/doing work.
How is an organism’s energy role determined in an ecosystem?
 an organism that makes its own food  an organism that eats other living things to get energy.

Food chain and food webs

Producers? an organism, that is able to produce its own food

Consumers? an organism, within a community that feeds upon plants or other animals

Decomposers? An organism, often a bacterium or fungus, that feeds on and breaks down dead plant or animal

Food chain The movement of energy though an ecosystem in an environment A food chain ALWAYS starts with the sun! Arrows represent the energy that is being given off

Food web Where many kinds of living things in a community get the food they need to survive. A food web is different food chains that help balance the ecosystem
