Our Mission Our mission is to provide guidance, tools, and support for DOE programs and contractors in order to assure safe, compliant, reliable, and efficient transportation of the Department's hazardous and radioactive materials We work with a wide variety of internal and external entities to assist the DOE sites in accomplishing the Agency’s mission

Packaging Support to Field Sites Packaging Certification Department-wide program that provides for the certification of fissile and Type B packagings. Review and approval of packaging designs Issuance of DOE Certificates of Compliance Review and recertification of Certificates of Compliance Curtails and/or suspends the use of specific packages, when warranted Review and approval of quality assurance programs for Type B and fissile radioactive material packaging activities In FY-15, work-in-progress- 21 dockets 21 dockets closed 19 new dockets opened 11 QA dockets approved

Transportation Emergency Planning and Preparedness (TEPP) Provided 183 courses, in 22 different states, with 2958 responders trained Participated in a full scale exercise in Andrews, TX Participated in the tabletop exercise in Clark county and Nye County, NV Emergency Preparedness Shared Information and collaborated with state and tribal governments, and other federal agencies along transportation routes Coordination with DOE program offices, site operations, and impacted states and tribes along transportation corridors Outreach 7

Update on Order Revision Regulations and Standards Department-wide responsibility for developing and maintaining three transportation Orders DOE O 460.1D: “Hazardous Materials Packaging and Transportation Safety”-in RevCom review DOE O 460.2B: “Departmental Materials Transportation and Packaging Management”- work-in-process DOE M A: “Radioactive Material Transportation Practices Manual”-being incorporated into DOE O 460.2B Developing a new Order, 460.3: “Physical Protection of Unclassified Irradiated Fuel in Transit”-work-in-process DOE-HDBK-XXX-201X: “Freight Container Handbook”-it will be ready for RevCom review in August,

Defense in Depth for P&T Activities Transportation Risk Reduction Motor Carrier Evaluation Program (MCEP) Program has played a vital role in maintaining DOE’s excellent transportation safety record DOE recordable accident rate is much below the Industry (ACC) average rate As of June 2015, completed eight MCEP reviews Currently 38 carriers on the list: 31 Active National Carriers, 6 Active Local Carriers, and one carrier on temporary inactive status Transportation Safety and Operations Compliance Assurance Program (TCAP) Ensures that all packaging and transportation operations across the DOE complex are fully compliant with all applicable international, federal, state, tribal, and local laws, rules, and regulations. Conducted SPRU TCAP in October
